Outcomes of Programs based on Exercise alone with Veterans

Most of these participants were on pensions and suffered war caused stress related conditions. A sample of the feedback from participants of these programs ( which provided exercise only without group work) stated:

"The best program I've ever been part of."

"This program gives me structure to my week and a reason to get up."

"This program got me off my backside, and I'm back playing golf with my mates instead of being a recluse."

"The course is the best thing that has happened to me for many a year. On Sunday I am looking forward to Monday, on Tuesday I'm looking forward to Wednesday. I think it's a brilliant course and thank everybody involved."

"It does me the world of good, without it I would be behind closed doors. It also helps my medical conditions, knees and feet even though it causes some pain doing exercises."

"The man I married is starting to return."

"My wife says keep it up, at least she can live with me now."

One Exercise Physiologist, who runs some programs, provided this feedback.

"This is the most rewarding program I've worked on, it's a real buzz to see how much these people have changed, both physically and mentally."

One Counsellor who regularly works with program participants stated;

"It's like you're working with a completely different person. Instead of dealing with a person who is so depressed they can hardly think; after 3 months you are dealing with a person who has so much more energy, is able to make sense of abstract ideas such as trust and communication, and wants to change. The difference is stunning!"
